Scotia-Glenville's Ethan Robar, back, looks to take down Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth's Mason Earley during a 190-pound Foothills Council wrestling match on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024.

AMSTERDAM — Thursday night’s Foothills Council boys’ wrestling match between Scotia-Glenville and Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth came down to the very end.

Dominic Brydie kept Amsterdam alive as he earned a second-period pin over Scotia-Glenville's Zaiden Hempstead in the 170-pound match, which was the second-to-last match of the evening.

That brought Amsterdam within four points heading into the finale in the 190-pound division — a bout that could have gone either way.

Ethan Robar, boasting a 17-7 record for the Tartans, took on Amsterdam’s Mason Earley, who had a 22-8 record entering the match.

While Robar needed any kind of win to clinch the match for his team, Earley needed to win either via a pin or a technical fall to secure a team victory for Amsterdam.

With the 190-pounders tied in points late in the third period, Robar was able to secure a pin over Earley to pick up the win, as Scotia-Glenville defeated Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth 41-31.

Scotia-Glenville also earned pinfall victories from Kaleb Sweeney (215), Luke Orminski (285), Sam Watson (152) and Lyndon Barber (160). Tanner Knaggs (138) put together a 18-3 technical fall win for the Tartans as well.

In the 116-pound match, each team sent one of their female wrestlers to the mat, as Breyana Montalvo picked up a second-period pin for Amsterdam.

Messiah Grant, a 124-pounder, also earned a 13-5 major decision, while Hayden Shutts rallied to win a last-second 11-10 decision in the 145-pound match for Amsterdam.
