Russell Sage College

ALBANY — Russell Sage College has announced it is working on a teach-out agreement with The College of Saint Rose following the small Albany institution's December announcement that it will close at the end of the current academic year.

Russell Sage, which has campuses in Troy and Albany — just blocks from Saint Rose, will hold two virtual information sessions on Tuesday at 1 and 6 p.m. The sessions are open to students from any institution — not just Saint Rose. Those interested in the virtual transfer information sessions can register on the Russell Sage website. Such agreements, which aim to create smooth transitions for students needing to transfer during college, are subject to approval from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

According to Russell Sage's website, while students don’t need a teach-out agreement to transfer from a closing college, the formal agreements offer credit transferability and financial aid typically above and beyond a typical transfer.

“Saint Rose’s closure announcement is a loss for the entire Capital Region community. We know that Saint Rose students are excellent students, who desire to make the world a better place through their chosen studies, and ultimately, careers,” Russell Sage President Christopher Ames said in a press release. “Our two colleges, set in the heart of Capital Region cities and with similar program offerings, share a similar atmosphere and mission, and we believe Saint Rose students will feel very comfortable at Russell Sage.”

Saint Rose will shutter in May due to mounting financial challenges.
