BALLSTON SPA — Nani’s Indian Kitchen in the village of Ballston Spa closed its doors to the community Saturday after being open for a little over three years.

“With a heavy heart, we wanted to let all our customers know today is our last day,” the restaurant’s Facebook stated Saturday. “We are very grateful for the support and love we received over the previous three years. We have met fantastic people through our little restaurant and will forever cherish these relationships.”

The restaurant opened in November 2020 by Nafeesa Koslik, and served Indian cuisine Koslik learned from her mother. The restaurant featured specialties from Hyderabad, the region that Koslik’s family is from in India, according to the restaurant's website.

In an email Monday, Koslik said the sales at the restaurant have been down 50% for the last year, while the cost of doing business has only risen.

"I have been working fulltime to support my family and the business for the last two years," she said in the email. "I thought things would get better but they have not."

She said that she is grateful to the community members who supported the business over the years.

In the Facebook post, the business also stated that the business will do pop-ups in the future and be available for catering and private events.

Many people said they were sad to see the business close in numerous comments on Facebook.

Mayor Frank Rossi also posted on Facebook how much the restaurant will be missed after getting one of the last meals served there.

“Nani’s will be missed by MANY of us,” Rossi said in his post. “However, I’m excited to see where the future takes all of the wonderful people that have been involved in a restaurant that opened up during the heart of Covid in November 2020 & that opened our community’s hearts & minds to the goodness of homemade Indian food always made with fresh ingredients & love.

"Thank you for making Ballston Spa a better place, Nafeesa. Ballston Spa will always be a place you can call home — so don’t be a stranger!”
