NORTH CREEK — With skiers hitting the slopes after fresh powder arrived in the region this weekend, the Northwoods Gondola at Gore Mountain is currently down due to mechanical issues, but the mountain’s peaks are still open to skiers.

According to the resort, a faulty bearing in the gearbox is the cause of the issue, with the resort awaiting a new part to arrive to repair the box.

Gore Mountain Marketing Manager Julia Johnson said the gondola has been down since Dec. 31 and is expected to be back online by the middle of next week.

“The good news is that we are expecting the gondola to be open very soon,” she said on Tuesday.

The maintenance team at the resort has disassembled the gondola’s gearbox and is ready to repair the unit when the new part arrives.

“Our lift maintenance team is one of the best in the area and they caught it early,” Johnson noted.

Johnson said, starting on Jan. 2, skiers had access to the mountain’s summit via the High Peaks Quad.

“You can get all the way up to the summit and all the way over to the top of Bear Mountain,” she said.

The resort received nine inches of snow on Sunday, with another 6-12 inches expected on Tuesday.

According to the resort, visitors can access the mountain summit by both the High Peaks Quad and via the Wood In trail.
