I cringed when I saw the headline (“Biden is dividing the country he promised to unite”) on the Jan. 19 Gazette Opinion page. Syndicated columnist Clive Crook equates Biden’s speech on election law with “Trump-level demagoguery.” Biden called on all senators, including Sinema and Manchin, to choose between Dr. King and George Wallace in voting on voter legislation. Sen. Romney accused him of dividing the country.

If Mitt prefers George Wallace to Dr. King, he should say so.

Recently in Chatham, residents rallied against White supremacy. One man termed hate groups “no different than the old KKK. Where there is silence, the void would be filled with hatred.”
